I received the following information regarding an upcoming exporting seminar. See details below:

Please spread the word about the Madison International Trade Association’s November 15 full-day seminar to any companies that are seeking to expand their international business. This year’s theme is “Creating Efficiencies: Making the Most of Your Resources.” Speakers will address strategic planning, supply chain management, international human resources management, and pricing issues. Real world experiences from large and small companies like Harley-Davidson, Hatco Corporation, and ITW will be presented as learning opportunities for participants.

The seminar is a great networking opportunity to meet other business people who have tackled many international problems succeeded in markets abroad. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the support service providers like freight forwarders, international lawyers, and bankers who can make doing business in other countries easier. Lone Eagle Kickoff Meeting This Thursday (9/20)

September 20, 2012
2:00 - 3:00 PM
Waunakee Village Hall
500 West Main Street
Waunakee, WI

The Village of Waunakee is pleased to announce the kickoff meeting for what we are calling the "Lone Eagle Initiative".  The first meeting will be held this Thursday (9/20/2012) at Village Hall from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.

Waunakee’s Lone Eagle Initiative is an effort to engage with and understand the needs of professionals who work out of the home. We speculate that there is a significant home‐office segment in our community. The Village is interested in reaching out to these professionals. Our hope is to change that, with an outcome of greater engagement that is a benefit to both the home‐office professionals and the Village as a whole.

Key Goals:

1) Identify the size of the home‐office segment in our local economy.
2) Engage home‐office professionals to learn how the Village, other community organizations, and local business sector can be of greater service to them.
3) Establish a plan to foster improved relationships with home‐office professionals and undertake projects to better serve them.

Desired Outcomes:

1) Greater awareness of home‐office professionals, which will allow for opportunities to share information and establish professional connections.
2) Position Village to coordinate helpful resources and services, to perhaps include public facility spaces designed to meet needs of home‐office professionals.
3) Incubator‐style business growth where home‐office professionals enjoy success to the point where they open vibrant and successful businesses in the Village.
4) Growth in private sector resources and opportunities to serve lone eagles.
5) Ensure greater success for home‐office professionals.

Transit Corridor Study Public Meeting

September 10, 2012
6:00 - 8:00 PM
Madison Senior Center
330 West Mifflin Street
Madison, Wisconsin

The Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MPO), in cooperation with Metro Transit and the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC), is leading a study to explore where and how to implement Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in the Madison metropolitan area. The study is part of the Capital Region Sustainable Communities (CRSC) Initiative led by CARPC.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a high-frequency, limited-stop service that offers an improved customer experience on busy transit corridors. Faster service is accomplished by speeding passenger boarding, transit priority at traffic signals, and express service. Station improvements, information technology, and improved service reliability and vehicle comfort create a more user-friendly experience.

Please join planning staff and the consultant team at a public meeting on September 10, 2012 to learn more about BRT and provide your input on what the Madison metropolitan area’s potential BRT system might look like.

For more information on the BRT Study, go to http://www.madisonareampo.org/BRT.cfm

What is Six (6) Miles west from exit 131 on I-39/I-90?

The answer is: The Village of Waunakee! In our effort to continue dispelling the rumor that Waunakee is way north of Madison in the middle of nowhere, here's a quick reminder that Downtown Waunakee is just 6 miles off of Interstate 39/90. As the crow flies, we are a mere 9 miles from the dome of the Wisconsin State Capitol building. In 10 short minutes you are able drive from Waunakee to the Dane County Regional Airport. In truth, we are "Just North of Madison". If you pass this sign you've gone too far...

Main Street Project Meeting

Geoff Vine, Chair of the Central Business District Committee will be holding an informational Main Street project meeting on Tuesday, February 7th, at 5:30 p.m. located in the lower level of the Village Center.  Geoff will be discussing the different project alternatives, how these alternatives may affect you, and your thoughts on the changes currently being considered.

DOT officials have offered additional alternative for the Village to consider.

  • Alternative 1- Do nothing, put the project on hold indefinitely
  • Alternative 2 - Current proposal; continue on as planned for 2014 project with resurfacing and a street enhancement project.  The level of enhancements is still in discussions.
  • Alternative 3 - A full roadway reconstruction to four lanes that would restrict parking during AM and PM hours.  The DOT has proposed to completely reconstruct the roadway in 2017 or 2018, eliminating on-street parking during peak hours and eventually phasing out on-street parking altogether.
Geoff will be reporting all information from the meeting to the Village Board to make a decision.  This is your opportunity to gather more information and voice your opinion on the proposed alternatives.

If you are unable to attend and would like to share your opinion, please email Geoff Vine at cbdtaskforce@gmail.com
