What is Six (6) Miles west from exit 131 on I-39/I-90?

The answer is: The Village of Waunakee! In our effort to continue dispelling the rumor that Waunakee is way north of Madison in the middle of nowhere, here's a quick reminder that Downtown Waunakee is just 6 miles off of Interstate 39/90. As the crow flies, we are a mere 9 miles from the dome of the Wisconsin State Capitol building. In 10 short minutes you are able drive from Waunakee to the Dane County Regional Airport. In truth, we are "Just North of Madison". If you pass this sign you've gone too far...

Main Street Project Meeting

Geoff Vine, Chair of the Central Business District Committee will be holding an informational Main Street project meeting on Tuesday, February 7th, at 5:30 p.m. located in the lower level of the Village Center.  Geoff will be discussing the different project alternatives, how these alternatives may affect you, and your thoughts on the changes currently being considered.

DOT officials have offered additional alternative for the Village to consider.

  • Alternative 1- Do nothing, put the project on hold indefinitely
  • Alternative 2 - Current proposal; continue on as planned for 2014 project with resurfacing and a street enhancement project.  The level of enhancements is still in discussions.
  • Alternative 3 - A full roadway reconstruction to four lanes that would restrict parking during AM and PM hours.  The DOT has proposed to completely reconstruct the roadway in 2017 or 2018, eliminating on-street parking during peak hours and eventually phasing out on-street parking altogether.
Geoff will be reporting all information from the meeting to the Village Board to make a decision.  This is your opportunity to gather more information and voice your opinion on the proposed alternatives.

If you are unable to attend and would like to share your opinion, please email Geoff Vine at cbdtaskforce@gmail.com
